Benefits Extended For Paralyzed Fort Worth Officer
FORT WORTH (AP) -- The Fort Worth City Council voted to extend leave-of-absence pay benefits for a police officer paralyzed in a 2003 line-of-duty shooting.
The council also denied an extension to a former police officer critically injured in a crash in the line of duty.
The council voted 5-4 Tuesday to extend Officer Lisa Ramsey's benefits for three years until she becomes eligible for retirement. The 52-year-old officer has been on light police duties since 2004 so she could remain on the force.
However, the council voted chose not to extend the leave-of-absence benefits for Officer Richard Lambing. The 41-year-old officer lost his hearing and requires a walker or wheelchair for mobility. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports he can't work as a policeman but expressed hope for returning ``in some capacity.''
