Balch Springs Councilwoman Arrested For Making 911 Call

BALCH SPRINGS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Balch Springs confirmed Thursday that councilwoman Wanda Adams was arrested and charged with Silent or Abuse Calls to 911 services.

When Adams spoke with CBS 11 News last week she said she had seen video and heard from businesses owners complaining about slow response times. She too says she asked police for help with the matter, but claims they were not speedy enough.

After seeing video of two suspects robbing a Dollar General Store Adams said she decided to place an emergency call. "I wanted them [store management] to see that I am pro-active, because they were feeling like they were not getting the satisfaction."

Authorities said previously that their issue with Adams is that she didn't communicate with the dispatchers during the emergency call. "Our resources are meant to protect our community," explained Balch Springs Police Deputy Chief Jonathan Haber. "We can't protect our community if we are out chasing bogus calls."

The councilwoman turned herself in at the Balch Springs Police Department, was booked into the jail and later released on a $500 bond.

The Silent or Abuse Calls charge is a Class B misdemeanor.
