IRVING (CBS11) – The iconic Irving sub shop Captain Nemo's is making sure police officers know they are appreciated.

As part of the "Back The Blue Campaign," a nationwide effort to support local law enforcement, shop owners Bill and Lyn Miller have teamed up with their loyal customers to offer police officers free meals.

They've raised hundred of dollars for more than 150 gift cards which they gave to Irving police officers so they could eat at Captain Nemo's for free.

Bill Miller said, "They mean a lot to us. We care about our police officers."

The Miller's say their customer base is so loyal it was easy to convince the regulars to chip in and donate to raise all the money for those gift cards.

Lyn Miller added, "People were very enthusiastic."

Officers say the gesture was unexpected and it very much appreciated.

Officer James McLellan is the department spokesman and said, "We've been coming here for years. We know how much they support us and appreciate us. This is just something over and above their generosity."

The Millers are hoping their show of gratitude will inspire other small business to do the same and support their local police officers.
