Austin Overrun By Cricket Invasion

AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM) - As the temperatures start going down, we are bound to see more crickets here in DFW. Austin is currently in the middle of a cricket invasion thanks to a dip in its temperature last week.

Pest specialist Brian Kelly told KEYE that it is mating season for the hopping insects. After looking at cell phone video shot at an Austin mall, Kelly explained that crickets will crawl up buildings and get into light fixtures to get into a building.

Many crickets also just crawl under the doors.

They are especially attracted to strip centers and car dealerships due to the bright lights that are left on at night. Stadiums are huge beacons to these pests as well. Crickets breed and eat at night, and work their way into businesses during the day.

The good news is that your home is less of a target, because of the minimal light put out at night.

This infestation in Austin is expected to last about a month.
