Dallas police: 1 person dead, 2 injured in car crash involving stolen horses

DALLAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) — One person and two horses are dead following a southern Dallas car crash early Tuesday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m. March 14, police responded to a crash at Great Trinity Forest and Julius Schepps Freeway.

When officers arrived, they found the crash involved three horses and three riders. 

One rider, who has been identified as a 14-year-old, died at the scene. The two others riders—a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old—were taken to nearby hospitals where they're in stable condition, police said. None of their identities have been released at this time.

Police said the horses were stolen by the teens. One horse died at the scene, another was later euthanized by a veterinarian and the third was injured but is expected to survive.

The car involved in the crash left the scene; However, police said the driver remained at the location.

No charges are expected for the driver, police said, and this remains an ongoing investigation.
