OAKLAND (105.3 The Fan) - The Rangers were on a high when they left Arlington on Sunday after a brawl and a win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Three days later, Texas is down in the dumps again.

Oakland got to Martin Perez early and tagged him for three runs in the first inning, on the way to an 8-1 win and a sweep of the Rangers.

Perez would settle down after the first, but the Rangers' bats would go quiet.

Texas ran into 36-year-old Rich Hill on Wednesday afternoon. The left-hander's curveball was particularly tough to hit today according to Rangers manager Jeff Banister.

"It's a tough pitch for our guys to pick up. It's been a tough pitch for every team to pick up this season."

Hill went six strong for his sixth win of the season. He represents a 2.54 ERA, good enough for seventh in the American League.

Perez fell to 1-4 on the season after allowing four earned runs over seven innings.

The flood gates were opened in the eighth when reliever Andrew Faulkner (1 ER) and Luke Jackson (3 ER) combined to allow four earned runs without recording an out. Alex Claudio entered and got all three outs.

Texas' only run came on a opposite field base hit by Prince Fielder to score Ian Desmond.

The Rangers have an off day Thursday before starting a three-game series in Houston on Friday.
