DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Pulled over on the road by what appeared to be police officer, a Dallas man says he believes he was robbed by imposters.

With flashing red and blue lights, badges and guns… John Rojas said he was pulled over on Tuesday morning by what appeared to be three police officers in an SUV.

"He said, 'Put your hands up, put your hands up.' I could see him in the rear-view mirror with the gun," said Rojas. "I just wanted it to be as smooth as possible. I didn't need any outcomes where I'm in jail."

Rojas was pulled over as he exited I-35 E at Colorado Boulevard in North Oak Cliff right around 6:45 a.m.

"They had badges. He had a badge clear around his neck," said Rojas.

With a firearm to his face, Rojas followed every command and got on his knees, then his stomach.

"Different questions like if I had any warrants. Any drugs? Anything that can hurt them in the car?" said Rojas.

The people he thought were officers then started searching his vehicle. Rojas said they let him go, telling him he had 60 seconds to get away, which he found odd.

"I'm not going to question these guys with a gun to my face," said Rojas.

As he drove off and started to look around his car, he realized his cell phone, debit card and Beats headphones were gone.

"I was like, 'wow I just got robbed. These weren't no damn cops.' Cops would take your stuff you know?" said Rojas.

The North Oak Cliff resident is now speaking out about the incident hoping to help others.

"It's in my area you know? Now my fear is for my girlfriend and anybody else around here. Just in general, it's terrible man," said Rojas.

Since they took his phone, Rojas went to Dallas Police to file a report.

The robbery unit is now investigating.
