Arlington police shoot man in apartment complex parking lot

ARLINGTON – The Arlington Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that happened late Monday night.

Police said they received a call after 9 p.m. about a suspicious person who was reportedly looking into several cars in the parking lot. The person who called 911 said the person might be armed with a gun.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said they found a 34-year-old man lying on his back on the hood of a vehicle. Police said they shined a flashlight on the man, announced themselves as police and asked what was going on.

The man then sat up and police noticed there was a gun on his hip. Police said they gave the man demands to show his hands but instead, he grabbed the gun and raised it.

APD said both officers fired their guns multiple times, striking the man.

The man was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

No officers were injured. The two officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave, per APD policy.
