Arlington Officer Makes A Difference In Autistic Child's Life

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) — A recent chance encounter between an Arlington police officer and a 3-year old boy living with Autism proves no kind gesture is too small.

Jessica Coleman said she and her son Lennon were leaving an area park recently when they came across Officer Jean Tham.

"I said Lennon 'look a police car' and he just started waving and was so excited, and officer Tham came over to us and flashed his lights and gave him a high five and a sticker and it just made my sons night," said Coleman.

Coleman said her son's Autism keeps him from being able to communicate thoroughly but on that day she said his smile was so big there was no confusing how he was feeling.

So the two visited the Arlington Police Department again in hopes of meeting with Officer Tham, they wanted to say thank you and for Coleman it was another chance to see her son smile.

Officer Tham said "A child is the most pure form of any individual that you'll see."

He added, "We want to interact with the community, and have positive interactions."

Coleman said she will forever be grateful to officer Tham for bringing her son the joy he did.

She said, "It just makes you filled with so much pride as a mom that someone took a short moment of their time to make that happen for you."
