Arlington Community Saddened After Bike Crash Claims Boy's Life

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW) - The miniaturized motorcycle that killed 11-year-old Demarion Levi should have never been on the street in the first place according to police.
The TaoTao 110cc miniature dirt bike is not street legal, according to Arlington Police and Levi's family wants to know who let him ride it.
"He can't crank the bike up by himself," said Levi's aunt, Latoya Standifer. "You have to jump start it and crank it up. He's 11. He can't jump start and crank a bike. Someone either helped him, or cranked it for him."
Police said that none of Levi's neighbors admitted to owning the bike, but several people claim to have witnessed the crash Tuesday.
"We was right here in the street," said neighbor Dwayne Webster. "We watched it. We watched and it was horrible."
Witnesses said Levi rode the motorcycle up and down the street several times, before colliding with a young girl, Carri Mayfield, and crashing into a brick mail box.
"I didn't see him," said Mayfield. "We was crossing the street and then boom. I got hit. And then I fell."
Mayfield was treated for cuts and scrapes at the hospital, and needed help to walk on Wednesday.
Police confiscated the bike, but have not said if its owner will face any charges.
Meanwhile, a memorial grows larger by the hour at the crash scene, just a few houses down from Levi's grieving family.
"It's an accident," said his aunt with tears in her eyes. "It was his time to go I guess. That's the only thing I can think of."
