3-Story Apartment Building Seriously Damaged By Fire In East Fort Worth
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A three-story apartment building in the 1700 block of Cherbourg Drive in East Fort Worth caught fire Wednesday afternoon around 4:00 p.m.
It's near Brentwood Stair Road and Eastchase Parkway.
The Fort Worth Fire Department said there were 20 units in the burning building.
The 3-alarm fire was put out around 5:30 p.m. It took about 65 firefighters to do that.
The fire is said to have started in between the first and second floor and thick smoke has been shooting out of the building for more than an hour.
There is no word on any injuries at this point.
"My apartment is gone. Everything," said tenant Peter Ude. "Everything is gone. I don't know what to do now. Everything is gone."
The fire department said 12 units were impacted by the fire, leaving 24 adults and nine children displaced.
Apartment management is working to move those families into vacant units.
Wind speeds up to 20 miles per hour helped fuel the fire, according to CBS 11 Chief Meteorologist Scott Padgett.
It was blowing out of the north, pushing through this apartment complex," said Mike Drivdahl with the Fort Worth Fire Department. "Weather factors are always something we have to take under consideration."
Investigators do not yet know what caused the fire, but said they have no reason to believe it was intentional.
