Anthony Spencer Signs With Saints

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - Former Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl defender Anthony Spencer is signing a one-year deal to join the New Orleans Saints, agent Jordan Woy told 105.3 The Fan.

Spencer entered free agency with hopes of re-igniting his career under the terms of a one-year deal and a starting job that could later earn him a bigger contract. He maintained contact with Dallas, which couldn't promise him much first-team time at defensive end, something he figures to get in New Orleans while playing linebacker under coordinator Rob Ryan, who worked with Spencer previously with the Cowboys.

Spencer was good enough in two seasons under Ryan in Dallas that he earned the franchise tag from the Cowboys before both the 2012 and 2013 seasons, but played in just one game in 2013 before having microfracture surgery on his knee. Spencer was a backup end in Dallas last season.
