FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A family member pulled a three-year-old girl from their backyard pool around 6:00p.m. Saturday evening in North Fort Worth on Summerbrook Circle.
When paramedics from the Fort Worth Fire Department arrived, the child's father had performed CPR and she coughed up a lot of water. MedStar took over CPR and the child was conscious as she was rushed to Cook Children's Hospital.
The Fort Worth Fire Department says there were several children swimming inside the pool who decided to get out of the water. No one saw the three-year-old get into the pool on her own.
But the e girl's father noticed she was missing, ran out and spotted her in the pool. It's believed that she was in the pool for only a very short period before being removed.
Shortly after the incident the Fort Worth Fire Department tweeted: "Can't emphasize enough--we must have "focused attention" on our children when they're in/near water. Please be vigilant."MedStar says this is the 11th near-drowning or actual drowning to happen in the past 30 days.
Cook Children's Hospital says it handled 26 cases of drowning emergencies in June, double the number from last June.
