American Eagle, Possibly 7-11 To Relocate To Irving

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - It's a new destination for American Eagle Airlines.

This July, the regional carrier, a subsidiary of American, will be moving to its own, separate headquarters: Two buildings along LBJ Freeway in Irving, just north of DFW International Airport.

The airline's CEO Pedro Fabregas says, "We're excited to become part of your community. After a long search, we decided Irving was the ideal location to base our company. It's a central location in North Texas, and has easy access to DFW Airport."

Epsilon, the firm based there now, will be going to another location in Irving.

Irving's Mayor, Beth Van Duyne is beaming about American Eagle. "We welcome your 600 employees."

American Eagle's move here to Irving may not be the only corporate relocation on the horizon.

In the next several months, Dallas-based 7-11 may move its corporate headquarters to this city.

Irving leaders say the company is strongly considering moving its 1,250 employees to a new building on this land along LBJ at Ranch Trail, after the city council recently approved $7 million in tax breaks for the company.

7-11 isn't commenting.

Mayor Van Duyne says, "We are trying to bring businesses here. We are working very hard for economic development."

Experts say American Eagle and possibly 7-11's moves can only help Irving, but are largely symbolic, and not as significant as if a large corporation from out of state relocated thousands of employees to North Texas.

Even so, Happy Singh, the owner of the Urban Tadka Indian restaurant says he likes what's cooking in Irving.

"It's really good for me. I think I can pick more business up if they're moving over here."

He says business has already heated up nearly one year after he opened.
