American Airlines Reports Traffic Increase

FORT WORTH (AP) - Traffic and a key revenue figure are up at American Airlines and US Airways, which merged last year.

The Fort Worth-based American Airlines Group Inc. said Monday that traffic in January rose 3.8 percent, as passengers flew 17.3 billion miles. Domestic travel rose 2.9 percent, while international grew 6.7 percent.

The company added 2.3 percent capacity. Still, with traffic rising faster than the supply of seats, flights were more full -- 80.3 percent compared with 79.1 percent in January 2013.

Revenue for every seat flown one mile is expected to increase by between 2 percent and 4 percent for the quarter, compared with the same period last year.

The company was formed by the December merger of American and US Airways.
