FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Emergency slides were deployed from an American Airlines plane to evacuate more than 140 passengers and crew while parked at DFW Airport. Three people suffered minor injuries, according to American Airlines.
Flight 1658 was about to take off from DFW, headed to Chicago O'Hare Airport, when possible smoke in the cabin was detected. The emergency exits were deployed as the MD-80 aircraft sat at gate A14.
"Our fleet service team was still on the ramp and assisted passengers and crew with a successful evacuation of the aircraft," said American Airlines spokesperson Andrea Huguely in a statement.
A total of 146 people were on board the plane (141 passengers, 5 crew members). They will all be placed on another plane to Chicago.
This is a developing story. CBS 11 is on the way to the airport and will have more information as it becomes available.
