GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - American Airlines has a big and shiny new plane, and it departed for the first time from DFW International Airport on Thursday morning. The inaugural flight for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner took the jet to Chicago before heading to Beijing.

This is considered the American Airlines plane of the future.

What makes it so special?

The jet has wider seats that can lie flat, and buttons that tint the windows. There is also better cabin lighting. And every seat has its own video screen connected to an in-flight entertainment system. The new American Airlines plane features 228 seats and even has business suites on board.

The Fort Worth based carrier is hoping that the more comfortable jet will bulk up service to Asia.

The first Dreamliner flight departed at 7:10 a.m. on Thursday morning and it was packed full. Passengers arrived some three hours early and were greeted with a big celebration while boarding the plane. American Airlines has been eagerly awaiting this day for the last seven years.
