North Texas children at center of Amber Alert safe; Suspect arrested

WISE COUNTY — Two North Texas children who were the focus of a Sunday morning Amber Alert have been found safe.

According to Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin, Yaretzi Diaz, 6, and Gael Diaz, 2, are safe. Jose Luis Diaz Martinez, the 33-year-old authorities said abducted the children following a shooting in Paradise, has been jailed in Donley County.

Akin said a woman called the Wise County Sheriff's Office around 4:50 a.m. to report that Martinez, her estranged husband, entered her home and shot another man. The victim, a 33-year-old, was airlifted to JPS Hospital.

Martinez left the scene in a white 2007 Nissan pickup truck. Texas Highway Patrol stopped the vehicle near Clarendon on US 287 and arrested Martinez.

The Wise County Sheriff's Office and Texas Rangers are continuing the investigation.
