Amber Alert Ends, But Denton Child Still Missing

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Denton have discontinued the Amber Alert for a missing 4-year-old boy, even though the child has not been found.
Ricardo Lara's mother was found dead on Saturday, and the boy could not be located. Authorities have also been on the hunt for 23-year-old Ricardo Martinez, the child's father. Officials believe that the father and son are together, but their location is not known.
The Texas Department of Public Safety discontinued the Amber Alert on Tuesday, saying that this case no longer meets the requirements for such an alert. Details surrounding this decision were not released.
The body of 27-year-old Maria Isabel Romero Medina was found Saturday evening at Sanchez Insurance and Tax in the 1100 block of East McKinney Street, where she worked. She was last seen early Friday, and had sent a text message to a family member at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
A customer tried to enter the business on Saturday, but the doors were locked. Another employee came and discovered Medina's body inside of the building. Workers said that Medina had a son, and the search began for that young man. It is not known if the boy witnessed his mother's death.
According to detectives, Medina had previously threatened to terminate Martinez's parental rights. Officials in Denton identified Martinez as a person of interest in this case, and issued the Amber Alert out of fear for Lara's safety. Lara has been described as a Latino male, about 3 feet tall and weighing around 55 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
Police in Denton are concerned that the father may have left the area with his son. Martinez has ties to Chicago, Mexico City and Springfield, Missouri.
Although the Amber Alert has been discontinued, the investigation remains open. Police are continuing to pursue leads and locate the missing child.
