Amazon Now Offering Same-Day Delivery In DFW
NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - If you were online before Noon today ordering something on Amazon.com odds are you became a part of history. Wednesday was the first day the website unveiled their new same-day delivery option, and several select areas of the metroplex are included in the available locations.
"It's called Amazon Same-Day Delivery," explained a company spokesman on the ad a CBS 11 News crew played for consumers on a cell phone.
The ads tout same-day delivery for millions of items.
"That's pretty cool," Mitchell Venhouse said.
The motto for the delivery option is - order by noon, get it by nine.
Amazon started the program in four cities back in May. It's now expanding the same-day concept to six more cities including the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Company officials say the goal is to increase membership in Amazon Prime.
Members who pay the monthly Prime fee can have same-day delivery for an extra $5.99 for each order.
"I think it's going to help people a lot because usually when I order from Amazon it takes up to two weeks to get to me," shopper Taylor Webster said, adding, "If you can get it the same-day it helps if you need it the next day or if you do need it that same-day."
News of the service was kind of an 'ah-ha moment' for Venhaus. "If you think about all the delivery things that we have I'm surprised. Why haven't we done this before? I think it's a really good idea and I think it's going to work."
The Amazon ad promises delivery of everything from baby supplies to chain saws. But the question is, what are the chances consumers would lay down extra money to avoid a trip to the store down the street?
"Probably a 100-percent," said Jorge Suarez about his chances of using the service. "The convenience factor, that's going to play a major role."
