MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) - Mesquite Police arrest several suspects in connection with the theft of 20 truck tailgates worth an average of about $1,000 each.
The department's Patrol Division and Property Crime Section worked together to bust the alleged thieves. They say the tailgates were stolen from several cities in the area. The suspects are not from Mesquite.
"This was an excellent effort by several bureaus of the department working as a team to recover these tailgates and get them back to their rightful owners," says Interim Police Chief Robert Piccioni. "Tailgate theft is on the rise statewide, and this arrest sends a message to those who steal tailgates in the City of Mesquite that we will come after you."
Police say they're in the process of trying to return the stolen tailgates to the truck owners.
