COLLEGE STATION (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry still wants his name out there for 2016, but not etched into a certain building.
Perry on Thursday declined an offer from Texas A&M University to rename an iconic 100-year-old academic building on campus after the outgoing governor. Perry is an A&M graduate and was an Aggie yell leader on the sidelines of football games as a student.
Perry said certain places on the A&M campus "transcend any one individual." He called the offer a great honor but said he wants the Academic Building to keep its name.
A&M regents canceled a special meeting Thursday that had been scheduled to consider the Gov. Rick Perry '72 Building. Perry has appointed the entire nine-regent board.
Perry is still considering another White House run in 2016.
