When a tornado blasts your neighborhood, destroys your home... do you rebuild? Or move away and start new? KRLD's Cameron Fairchild reports that's the gut-wrenching decision many Garland residents faced the day after Christmas... and a decision city leaders did their best to help victims of the deadly tornado make..

Beth Dattomo with the Garland Mayor's office couldn't believe what she saw in the neighborhood where the tornado touched down.

Dattomo says while the loss of life is heartbreaking, the damage extensive, the city's emergency crews jumped into action immediately.

Once the immediate crisis was over, residents in the neighborhood blasted by the tornado had to decide whether to rebuild... or to move away. And the city wanted to help people stay...in that area.

Dattomo says some families were shattered by the disaster, they couldn't make decisions about what to do next... like one man she spoke to as he picked through the wreckage of his home... And Dattomo says while recovery is going well, and a lot of people who lost their homes decided to rebuild, the tornado has changed Garland.
