'Affluenza' Crash Victim Wants Doctor To Testify
FORT WORTH (AP) - Attorneys for a boy injured by a 16-year-old driver who killed four people in a drunken wreck want to hear from the psychologist who said the teenager had "affluenza."
A Fort Worth judge is to hear arguments Friday from lawyers for the driver, Ethan Couch, and Lucas McConnell, one of several people injured in last year's wreck.
The crash got national attention thanks in part to the testimony of psychologist Dick Miller. He said Couch was coddled into a sense of irresponsibility by his wealthy parents, a condition he termed "affluenza."
McConnell's attorneys say Miller should be forced to testify again in their lawsuit against the Couch family, but Couch's lawyers argue that would violate attorney-client and doctor-patient privileges.
