MANSFIELD (CBSDFW.COM) – Wearing a green jail gown and behind a glass window at the Mansfield Jail, Amelia Arroyo, 24, spoke about the murder charge she is now facing.

Authorities are holding Arroyo responsible for the shooting death of her boyfriend Eric Manning, 26. It happened at his home on the 5700 block of Whittlesley Rd. in Fort Worth on Saturday morning.

Police said they initially believed his death was an accident, but now they are investigating the case as a murder and the suspect is Arroyo.

Arroyo admitted she fired the lethal shot that killed Manning, but she maintained she didn't mean to shoot and kill him.

She said the two were arguing before the dispute escalated to a physical altercation.  She claimed while Manning was hitting her she reached for a nearby gun on kitchen table to hit him in defense.

According to Arroyo the gun went off as she hit him in the chest with it.

"I want everybody to know that I didn't try to kill him. I loved him... I didn't want to kill him."

Arroyo said she believes she shouldn't be charged with murder and added, "I just wish I had never picked up that gun."
