FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) — Seven people were taken to a hospital after an American Airlines flight endured severe turbulence, a spokesman for the Fort Worth-based company said.

American Airlines flight 206 was en route from Miami to Milan when the aircraft "briefly encountered severe turbulence," according to Ross Feinstein, a spokesman for the company. The plane landed safely in Newfoundland, Canada, where paramedics met the aircraft to evaluate passengers and crew.

Three flight attendants and four passengers were taken to a hospital for additional evaluation, Feinstein said.

The company is working to get passengers and crew to their destinations.
