MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) - An attempted robber left a Mesquite 7-Eleven empty handed even though he walked in with a gun.

Police say on Tuesday, January 12th  at about 2:30 a.m., a man pulled out a gun in the store at 1428 Oates Drive and forced the clerk behind the counter, making him empty the cash from two registers into a sack. The suspect demanded access to the safe and struck the clerk when he could not provide access.

The clerk fought back against the assault and eventually managed to gain control of the suspect's handgun. After a lengthy struggle the suspect managed to free himself and ran into the neighborhood behind the store. The clerk reported superficial cuts and bruising from the incident but none required immediate medical attention.
