5 Hilarious Baby Halloween Costumes

Halloween is just around the corner, and you've probably already started planning your costumes as you figure out what to wear to all those parties this year. Don't leave baby out of the picture! Keep in mind, with any baby costume, you'll want to keep it comfortable and safe for your child while you also consider how much you'll be carrying him or her around all night. Plus, since this is something you'll probably only bring out once, there's no need to spend a small fortune on some store-bought costume that you can never use again. Instead, use a little creativity to come up with an inexpensive, home-made costume that everyone will love. If you aren't sure what to do, here are a few suggestions to get you started.

Wayne and Garth
Retro is in, so why not embrace it and dress your baby up as one of the most beloved Saturday Night Live characters ever? This works best if you've got twins or a friend with a baby that you can dress up together. It's also an incredibly easy costume to pull off. The toughest part to find are the wigs, which you can get at any Halloween store. The rest is all regular clothing you probably already have at home. Add some fake glasses for Garth and a baseball cap for Wayne—just be sure to write Wayne's World on the ball cap to make sure you really sell the look. To get in on the costumes yourself, dress up in a suit and tie and be their manager. It's a super easy costume the whole family can get in on.

Older People
There's nothing cuter than a baby dressed up as an old man or woman, so whip out the makeup and some wigs and have fun. Try baby Einstein with a white wig or use baby powder to make your baby's hair look white. Or go for a baby old lady and add a sweater and a wig with gray hair pulled back in a bun. The old man from "Up" is another easy look to go with—all you need is a bow tie and a cardigan with some fake glasses for the outfit. Add some balloons from your local party supply store and you're done. If your baby walks, then you can make a little walker out of PVC pipe and some old tennis balls to totally sell the look.

Clementine
If you'll be carrying your baby around all night, then you may as well make it a little easier on yourself with a costume that's perfect for carrying. Get a clementine box at the grocery store (most stores sell them under the name Cuties)—just make sure it's big enough to comfortably fit your kiddo. Dress him or her up in all orange, add a few orange balloons to fill up the box, and you're done. An adorable baby costume that's almost good enough to eat. You can even throw a few extra clementines in the box with the baby and you have a healthy snack for later. To keep the look perfect, get an orange cap or make a little knit one so your baby's clementine look is from head to toe.

Ventriloquist Puppet
Here's a fun costume idea that works for you and your baby. You can make your baby your own little ventriloquist puppet with just a little bit of makeup. The outfit can really be anything you want. A suit with a bow tie might look great, or you can go with a fancy dress or even any store-bought costume. The trick is to use a little eye liner to make lines that run down from the corner of your child's mouth to his or her chin, so it looks like the mouth part of a ventriloquist puppet. To complete the look, grab a piece of white string and pin it to the back of your child's costume with a large safety pin, so you have a fake string to pull. Then just keep your new puppet on your knee during the party and you can both have fun in great mommy (or daddy) and baby costume.

Real Life Doll
This one may take a little bit of work, but you'll be posing for pictures with your baby all night. The best way to sell this costume is to have the perfect wig made out of yarn. You can make this at home with plenty of yarn and a knit cap. Just start by sewing the yarn onto the cap, making sure to totally cover the cap while leaving enough to make pigtails on each side. Add some yarn bangs and you have a comfortable (and warm) cap that looks just like a doll's wig for the costume. The rest is up to you. Go with a cute dress or even jeans and a t-shirt, dolls come in every type of outfit. If you want to take it a step further, you can make a doll's box out of cardboard and make fake packaging for your little doll. Plus, you can really have fun by making your wig-cap in lots of different colors. Try a bright red for the classic Raggedy Anne look, or go with a brown for a Cabbage Patch Kid look.
