GORDONVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Some members of a North Texas family are being hailed as heroes on Monday after they leapt into action to save four people from a violent plane crash. The incident happened on Sunday afternoon in Gordonville, located about 30 miles northwest of Sherman.

It is not yet clear what brought down the single-engine Beechcraft plane that hit a house before landing in a backyard.

Family members said that they were relaxing at home when the aircraft came down nearby. They immediately jumped up to assist the passengers. But they had to move quickly to get all four people out of the plane, because it was covered in fuel, and the house that got struck was going up in flames.

Nobody was inside of that home, but the family members still kicked open the door to spray water on the fire, in order to prevent it from spreading before first responders could arrive.

The pilot has been identified as Robert Gentry. He was transported to a hospital near Gordonville in serious condition. There was also a woman taken to The Medical Center of Plano in serious condition. She has been named as 51-year-old Karen Christian. A hospital spokeswoman stated Monday that she is now in fair and stable condition.

Two teenagers survived the crash with just minor injuries.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the plane to crash.
