LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) --Three Texas Tech football players have been kicked off the team.

A school statement Thursday said coach Kliff Kingsbury says sophomore linebacker Dakota Allen, sophomore offensive lineman Robert Castaneda and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Trace Ellison have been removed from the roster.

Kingsbury says the players were dismissed "due to failure to uphold student-athlete expectations." He did not elaborate.
Texas Tech had no further comment on the dismissals.
