2 Killed After Plane Goes Down In Montague County

MONTAGUE COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Two people were killed when a private plane crashed Friday afternoon near Bowie.

The twin-engine Cessna 414 was attempting to land at the Bowie Airport when it crashed on Lone Star Road. The accident happened just after 3:30 p.m.

The aircraft was destroyed by fire after the crash.

Initially sources told CBS 11 News and NewsRadio 1080 KRLD that three people had been killed in the crash. DPS later corrected the number of people who perished.

Told 51-year-old pilot, Lawrence Liptack, has been identified as the owner of the plane. Liptack is from Manvel, a city near Houston. The other victim was a 10-year-old boy who officials with DPS believe is the pilot's son.

FAA investigators are on their way to the site, and the NTSB has been notified.

The NTSB will be in charge of the accident investigation.

The names of the crash victims have not been released.

Bowie is about 65 miles northwest of Fort Worth.
