Arlington man who allegedly shot his wife, set house on fire dies

3 injured in shooting/house fire in Arlington

ARLINGTON — A man who allegedly shot his wife and set their home on fire Monday evening has died.

Just before 6 p.m., Arlington police officers were called to the 800 block of Connolly Terrace for a reported shooting. On the way, the officers were told there was a fire in the backyard of the property, spreading to the home in question.

Responding officers found a 61-year-old woman, who had been grazed by a bullet, at a neighbor's house and the suspect, the woman's husband, at the home on fire.

The woman told officers that her husband, also 61, was dealing with physical and mental health issues. She said he started a fire in the backyard and when she told him to put it out, he grabbed a gun and fired at her, according to Arlington police.

The woman was able to get to the neighbor's house and had them call 911. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers then located her husband in the backyard, under a pile of burning brush. While they were pulling him to safety, one of the responding officers suffered minor burns.

The husband suffered serious burns and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. On Tuesday, police said he died from his injuries.
