24-Hour Manhunt Ends After Truck Slams Into Police Cruiser
CROWLEY (CBSDFW.COM ) - Fort Worth police arrested murder suspect Kristun Madewell, 40, Friday after a 24-hour manhunt. He was apprehended after the pickup truck he was riding in slammed into a police cruiser, then a hit brick wall.
"It just sounded like a boom… like a crash or something," said Jackie Vaughn, who lives near the crash site. She was among several concerned homeowners who rushed to see what caused the commotion.
Madewell is wanted for murder in the December 12 death of Christopher Ortega in south Fort Worth.
"It scares the daylights out of me, because I've got three daughters that live over here with me and my husband and it scares me to know that he was that close," said resident Ann Kuo.
Both Madewell and the Fort Worth officer involved in the collision were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"He was knocked off the road… continued to follow this guy because he knew he was dangerous to the community. He knew that there was a neighborhood around here and he knew he had to be taken into custody," said Fort Worth Police spokeswoman Cpl. Tracey Knight about the officer.
The officer and everyone inside the pickup truck were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The drives will face charges for assaulting a police officer.
