DALLAS (AP/CBSDFW.COM) — Dallas police say a man has been arrested after taking his 2-year-old child to a drug deal, where the toddler was shot in the hand.

Police say the father went to buy drugs on Saturday night with his son in the back seat at 4500 S. Lancaster Road. Police say that after the dealer got into the front passenger seat, the two adults got into an altercation and the dealer pulled a gun. Police say "a fight over the gun ensued and the gun was discharged."

The father then left that location and called 9-1-1. The child was taken to Children's Medical Center Hospital.

The father was arrested on a charge of child endangerment.
