WACO (AP) — Two people have pleaded not guilty in the first arraignment hearings in the case of the more than 180 bikers arrested after a deadly shootout outside a Waco, Texas, restaurant.

Eight people indicted on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity in connection with the May 17 shootings were arraigned in district court Monday. Six waived their arraignments.

Nine people died and 20 were injured during the shootout between police and bikers, a conflict authorities say arose from an apparent confrontation between the Bandidos and the Cossacks motorcycle clubs.

Court records show nine more bikers are scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday and others are scheduled throughout the week.

Texas A&M University law professor Cynthia Alkon says the prosecution is required to turn over evidence 30 days after arraignment.
