FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Fort Worth responded to a shooting call Tuesday morning at a home in the 5000 block of Shackleford Street, located in the southeastern part of the city. Authorities believe that this could be a murder-suicide case.

Officials with MedStar confirmed that two people -- later said to be a 73-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman -- were killed in the incident.

Police explained that the couple's daughter was unable to contact her parents late Monday night. She came to the house Tuesday morning and found her parents dead inside of their bedroom. "It's horrific," said Sgt. Steve Enright of the Fort Worth Police Department. "I can't imagine how terrible it would be to walk into a scene like that. It would be awful."

It appears as though the father shot the mother and then turned the gun on himself, police stated. Officials have not yet released the names of the deceased individuals. "There is some speculation," Enright added, "that the mother had been suffering from dementia and the father had been suffering from some sort of depression."

The Fort Worth Fire Department actually responded to the home at around 5:00 p.m. on Monday after the woman had fallen out of bed. Workers made sure that the woman was not injured and helped her back up into the bed. "Everything at that time appeared to be fine," said Enright.

The home was blocked off Tuesday morning while detectives were at the scene. Investigators talked to family members and went in and out of the house several times, gathering evidence in this case while family grieved.
