NEW YORK (CBSDFW.COM) -In a sea of blue, officers paying respects to New York Police Officer Rafael Ramos, one of two police killed ambush-style in New York, were two North Texas police officers.
Outside of Christ Tabernacle Church In Queens, were thousands of men and women representing police departments across the nation to honor one of their own.
"It was important to show our support, to show the NYPD that law enforcement throughout the country particularly in Texas supports them, " explained Sgt Linn Goodman.
Goodman is a member of the Cleburne Police department and he wanted to be there as officer Ramos was laid to rest.
Ramos and his partner Officer Wenjian Liu, were ambushed a week ago while sitting in their police cruiser.
"My family was supportive and it was a privilege to miss family time during the holidays to come up here."
This would have been the first time in 15 years Goodman had time off during the holidays.
The Sgt made the trip with officer Eric Alexander and they traveled Jet Blue Airways, which offered officers across the country free airfare to attend Officer Ramous' service.
On Cleburne's Police Department Facebook page was a post referencing the trip the officers were making.
"The two officers will stand with our NYPD family."
In the background of this tragedy a tense national debate over police conduct. The man who shot Officer Ramos and his partner, made references on social media to Eric garner and Michael brown before the ambush.
"Officers throughout the country do this because they want to serve their community. It's a calling for us," said Goodman. "There's a system in place If they don't like the system, they need to change it through voting the people they want in office."
As the Cleburne Police officers said goodbye to fellow colleague they never met with thousands others they didn't know. They stood with their family in blue in solidarity.
