CORSICANA (CBSDFW.COM) - Three people, two adults and one child, have been killed in a deadly wrong-way crash on Interstate-45, in Freestone County.

According to investigators, the accident happened around 11 a.m. That's when the driver of a Chevy Silvardo pickup was traveling northbound on the southbound side of the highway. The pickup hit a Nissan Pathfinder with a husband, wife and six children inside.

The initial wrong-way crash caused a chain reaction, with a Hyundai sedan hitting the Nissan and a 3rd vehicle hitting the Hyundai.

The adult male in the Nissan and the driver of the Chevy pickup were both pronounced dead at the scene. A child from the Nissan was later pronounced dead at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. The woman and five other children inside the Nissan were transported to Dallas-area hospitals, by air and ground ambulance. Their conditions aren't known.

Authorities have not released the names of any of the people involved in the crashes.

Investigators have not confirmed the hometown of the family traveling in the Nissan or where they were traveling to or from.

The accident has shut down the southbound lanes of I-45 at the Navarro/Ellis County Line. SB traffic is being rerouted off the highway and officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is saying drivers should expect at least a two-hour delay in the area.
