DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) — An 11-year-old girl died and two other children were in critical condition after a multi-vehicle accident, police say.

Denton police officers responded to the four-vehicle accident at Highway 380 and Mayhill Road around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, the department said. Helicopters were called to transport the three children, and two adults were taken to a hospital.

An 8-year-old boy and a 4-year-old boy were taken to Children's Hospital in Dallas and were in critical condition, Denton police said. The 11-year-old was taken to Denton Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The extent of the injuries to the adult man and woman was not known. Police say they were also taken to Denton Regional Medical Center.

Police said Highway 380 between North Loop 288 and Geesling Road would be shut down for about three hours.

No charges have been filed. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the crash.

Editor's Note: This story has been updated to reflect corrected information from Denton police regarding the age and gender of the child who died shortly after the crash. Denton police said Sunday the medical examiner identified the child as an 11-year-old girl, not a 12-year-old boy, as police originally reported.
