DENTON (CBSDFW.COM ) - Authorities may bring accused UNT student killer Eric Johnson back to Texas sooner than originally thought.

Denton police said Johnson shot and killed Sara Mutschlechner from his car on New Year's morning. Johnson, a Marine corporal, was arrested at an air station in Yuma, Arizona.

Shane Kizer with Denton police said investigators have spoken to him.

"He did admit to responsibility in the shooting. Before we ever spoke to him we believed he was the lone shooter."

But due to a backlog at the Denton County Sheriffs office, they have not been able to send deputies to go pick him up.

"What we are waiting on is the Denton County Sheriffs Department to have time to pick him up. They have a number of people they have to pick up that are outside the area and outside the state."

Kizer expects to have Johnson back in North Texas within 10 days.
