1 Killed When Dallas Owned Plane Crashes Near Austin
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - One person was killed when a twin-engine plane crashed as it attempted to land at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford says the Piper Aerostar aircraft went down Wednesday afternoon north of the airport.
Authorities say the privately owned plane crashed in a field, igniting a three-acre brush fire that drew a broad response from emergency personnel. It was not immediately clear whether it was the pilot who was killed in the wreck or if any passengers were aboard.
FAA records list a Dallas man as the owner of the plane.
An airport spokesman says flights at Austin-Bergstrom were not affected by the wreck.
The FAA is investigating the matter.
