Man fatally shot by Arlington police after shooting at ex-girlfriend
ARLINGTON – A man is dead after police shot him on Sunday.
The shooting incident happened around 10:30 p.m. at F.J. "Red" Kane Park, located at 6500 S. Cooper St., when Arlington police responded to a domestic violence call.
When police arrived at the scene, 42-year-old Shannon Boyd fired his weapon multiple times toward a woman, who was previously in a relationship with Boyd, according to police.
Three officers fired their weapons, and Boyd was shot. He and the victim received first aid and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Boyd later died from his injuries. The victim, who had multiple gunshot wounds, is in critical condition. Arlington police said she was alert and breathing as of late Monday morning.
No police officers were injured. The officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave in line with the Arlington Police Department's policy.
The police department's spokesperson, Alex Rosado, said domestic violence calls are some of the most dangerous calls police respond to.
"We train for this. We prepare for this. But we're still human beings, and it's a very alarming call to respond to," he said.
Body and dashcam video will be available after they are reviewed as part of the investigation.
