1 dead after being hit by TRE train in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH – A pedestrian died after being struck by a Trinity Railway Express train Thursday.

The accident occurred around 5:10 p.m. at the intersection of East First Street and Penland Street, according to Fort Worth police.

A preliminary investigation indicated the victim, who was walking on the train tracks, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Homicide detectives were notified, and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner will determine "the manner and cause of death," a news release said.

The victim's identity was not immediately released, pending notification of next of kin.

Meanwhile, TRE trains resumed normal operations just after 7:30 p.m., following an earlier announcement that passengers could experience delays.
