Alvin Patrick
Award-winning journalist Alvin Patrick is the executive producer of the Race and Culture Unit and Content Development & Integration for CBS News, Stations and Media Ventures.
Patrick was named to this expanded role in August 2024. In this new position, he oversees the critical work being done by the Race and Culture Unit and long-form programming will expand across CBS News, Stations and Media Ventures.
Patrick previously served as the executive producer of CBS News Streaming Originals and the CBS News Race and Culture Unit.
Under Patrick's guidance, the CBS News Race and Culture Unit works with the executive producers of all platforms across the division to ensure the reporting reflects diverse perspectives.
His team works closely with CBS News Standards and Practices to ensure all reporting meets CBS News' rigorous guidelines. He also oversees CBS Village, an online repository featuring CBS News reporting on diverse communities.
He is the founding executive producer of the Race and Culture Unit, created in the summer of 2020. Since then, Patrick and his team have produced numerous specials that have been featured on the Network and across CBS News streaming properties, including the primetime specials "Pope Francis: The First" and "The Deciders," both hosted by" CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor Norah O'Donnell. His unit also produced "Tulsa 1921: An American Tragedy" and one-hour special "Trayvon Martin: 10 Years Later," both hosted by "CBS Mornings" co-host Gayle King. In addition, Patrick's unit created and co-produces BET's America in Black," in collaboration with BET News.
Patrick oversees a team that delivers original reporting and branded/sponsored content for the CBS News streaming and digital properties, including Paramount+. He oversees "CBS Reports," the original long-form specials and documentaries unit, and shows such as "Here Comes the Sun," "Eye On America" and "Person to Person with Norah O'Donnell" on CBS News 24/7.
Patrick has more than t30 years of experience in the broadcast and cable television business. He joined CBS News in 2012 as a senior producer, working exclusively with CBS News special correspondent James Brown. He has produced reports for 60 Minutes, "60 Minutes Sports" for Showtime, "CBS Mornings," the "CBS Evening News," "Face The Nation" and "48 Hours." Patrick continues to work with Brown on projects across CBS, including Brown's weekly sports news roundup on the CBS News Streaming Network.
Before joining CBS News, Patrick was a senior producer for ABC News' "Nightline" (2009-2011) and was a senior producer for the digital newsmagazine "The Daily" (2011-2012). Earlier, he was executive producer of ESPN's "Cold Pizza" and "ESPN News" (2005-2009). He served as executive producer and vice president at MTV Networks (2001-2004), and he was a producer on HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" (1999-2000). He began his broadcast network career at ABC News and ABC Sports (1989-1998).
Patrick's work has earned him numerous awards, including seven national Emmy nominations, seven NABJ Salute to Excellence Awards, a Gabriel Award and a Freddie Award. He also shared two Edward R. Murrow Awards with his colleagues at CBS News.
Patrick earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication arts (broadcast journalism) from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and a Master of Fine Arts degree in television production from City University of New York-Brooklyn College.
