Bay Area pop-punk heroes Green Day brought their current Saviors Tour to Oracle Park in San Francisco Friday for an epic show that also featured alt-rock favorites Smashing Pumpkins and fellow punk acts Rancid and the Linda Lindas.

SoCal punk upstarts the Linda Lindas were the first to play at Oracle, bounding onto the stage with a youthful enthusiasm that marked their brief 20-minute set.

Though Oracle's seats were still filling up when the Linda Lindas started playing at 5:30 p.m., the young women dug into songs from their two albums Growing Up and No Obligation with gusto, playing to those who arrived early enough to catch their set.

Billy Corgan and his alternative-rock group the Smashing Pumpkins provided the evening's one detour from punk, with the band featuring original members James Iha on guitar and Jimmy Chamberlin on drums playing a career-spanning set that included multiple songs from their biggest albums Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Siamese Dream to a crowd that had filled Oracle Park to capacity.

Though the first three bands had already warmed the crowd up plenty, Green Day further amped up the capacity audience after the house lights went down, playing Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Blitzkrieg Bop" by the Ramones, with the band's pink bunny mascot dancing onstage in a Giants jersey to the latter song.

Green Day opened the show with an explosion of pyrotechnics that accompanied their first song, the politically charged single "The American Dream Is Killing Me" from Saviors before diving into a performance of their breakout album Dookie in its entirety.

Magnetic frontman Billie Joe Armstrong introduced that portion of the set, welcoming the crowd to the 30th anniversary of Dookie before the band tore into the opening track "Burnout."

Though the band's bracing run through their seminal, hit-filled album set the bar high with spirited takes on "Longview," "Welcome to Paradise," "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around," Green Day somehow managed to maintain the intensity through an epic 38-song setlist, plowing through a mix new songs and hits between their performance of Dookie and their punk-rock opera American Idiot.
