Zogg Fire Update: Three Fatalities Confirmed As Shasta County Wildfire Grows To Over 31,000 Acres
SHASTA COUNTY (CBS SF) – The Zogg Fire in Shasta County continued to rage unabated Monday, exploding to over 31,000 acres in size with three confirmed fatalities, authorities said.
Shasta County Sheriff Eric Magrini confirmed that three people have been found dead in connection with the Zogg Fire during a Monday press conference. No details were available regarding the identity of the fire victims or how the died.
As of 7 p.m. Monday evening, Cal Fire said the Zogg Fire had grown to 31,237 was zero percent contained. The fire has destroyed 146 structures and over 1,500 structures are threatened.
Evacuations are for the following areas:
- All areas south of South Fork Road and Zogg Mine Road South along Gas Point corridor including all residents along Gas Point Road to Foster Drive
- Muletown Road from Placer Road to north of Kanaka Lane and all roads off of Muletown Road
- Diggins Way south of Placer and all roads off Diggins Way.
- Platina Road west to the Tehama County line
- All areas off and north of Platina Road from Trinity Alps Preserve to Platina
Residents were initially advised to evacuate east on State Highway 36 to the collection point at Holiday Market at 20635 Gas Point Road in Cottonwood.
The evacuee collection point was later changed to the Holiday Market at 3315 Placer Street in Redding.
The National Weather Service Sacramento said there are extreme fire weather conditions in the area of the fire, which is burning in the area of Zogg Mine Road and Jenny Bird Lane, North of Igo near Redding. The National Weather Service said north winds are reaching speeds of up to 30-40 mph with relative humidity values of 5-10 percent.
A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. on Monday.
The blaze initially grew to 1,000 acres in about a one-hour time span.
