Theranos Whistleblower Reportedly Grandson Of George Shultz

PALO ALTO (KCBS) – The whistleblower who spotted problems at the Silicon Valley blood-testing startup Theranos is the grandson of former Secretary of State George Shultz.

Tyler Shultz was a student at Stanford when he met the founder of Theranos, Elizabeth Holmes, at his grandfather's house.

George Shultz is a member of Theranos' board.

Tyler Shultz eventually interned at Theranos, then started working there as a paid employee.

But according to the Wall Street Journal, after the company ignored his complaints about doctored research, the younger Shultz went to regulators. He also became a source for the Journal's reports on problems at Theranos.

Tyler Shultz told the paper that he and his grandfather now communicate mostly through lawyers. The elder Shultz was unavailable for comment, according to a spokesman.
