Man Wrongfully Convicted Of Attempted Murder Sues City Of Oakland

OAKLAND (AP) -- A man who spent nearly seven years behind bars after being wrongfully convicted for attempted murder is filing a civil rights suit against the city of Oakland, alleging he was maliciously prosecuted.

Ronald Ross filed suit Friday in federal court in San Francisco, accusing Oakland police of conducting a faulty photo lineup that resulted in the shooting victim wrongly identifying him as the shooter.

Ross was released from prison in February 2013 after serving part of a 25-years-to-life sentence for his alleged role in the 2006 shooting of Renardo Williams.

The suit seeks at least $32 million in damages.

After Ross lost his appeal in 2008, the Northern California Innocence Project at Santa Clara University began investigating his case and ultimately won his release.
