Women's World Cup Viewing Parties For USA vs. Germany At Avaya Stadium, SF Civic Center
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Bay Area fans wanting to watch the U.S. women's national soccer team play in the semifinals of the FIFA Women's World Cup today against Germany can see the match on big screens at events in San Jose and San Francisco.
The San Jose Earthquakes are hosting a watch party at Avaya Stadium in San Jose for the 4 p.m. match. Gates at the stadium will open at 3 p.m. and the match will be shown on the backside of the video board facing the 7UP Epicenter, team officials said.
Gourmet food trucks and drink options at a bar at the stadium will be made available to fans and admission to the event is free, according to the team.
San Francisco is also hosting an event to watch the U.S.-Germany match on a big screen in Civic Center Plaza.
The event, hosted by the city's Recreation and Park Department in partnership with America Scores Bay Area, will also include scrimmages on mini soccer fields in the plaza as well as food trucks, city officials said.
The No. 2-ranked U.S. team defeated China 1-0 on Saturday and will now take on the top-ranked Germans in the Women's World Cup semifinals. The tournament is taking place in Canada and the winner of Tuesday's match will go to the final on Sunday and will face the winner of Japan and England.
