Woman Kidnapped, Robbed, Sexually Assaulted In Downtown Oakland
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A 23-year-old woman was kidnapped, robbed and sexually assaulted in downtown Oakland early Sunday morning, police said Monday.
The woman was walking in the 2300 block of Broadway at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when she was approached from behind by a stranger who was armed with a handgun, according to police.
The suspect then forced the woman to walk to a secluded location nearby where he robbed and sexually assaulted her, police said.
The suspect then fled on foot, according to police.
Investigators are looking into the possibility that the same suspect committed a kidnapping, robbery and attempted sexual assault in the area of Piedmont Avenue and Randwick Avenue just after midnight on Dec. 17, police said.
Authorities describe the suspect as a man in his 20s, possibly white or Hispanic, who is tall and has a medium build.
Police said he was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a black bandana, a black sweatshirt with a hood, dark pants and black shoes with red trim and was armed with a handgun.
Investigators have released this photo of the suspect that was taken from video surveillance footage after the crimes were committed.
Oakland police are asking anyone who may be able to provide information to call their special victims section at (510) 238-3641 or Crime Stoppers of Oakland at (510) 777-8572. Crime Stoppers of Oakland is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.
